Hocus Pocus is a Halloween Movie classic. This is my version of Winifred's Hocus Pocus Life Potion made into a cocktail. Perfect Cocktail for your Halloween Party!!!

This Cocktail was inspired by the First Hocus Pocus! It's perfect for Halloween Theme Parties or for Spooky Movie Night! Here are other cocktails that are inspired by my favorite Holiday: Halloween! Spooky Halloween Margarita, Apple Cider Margarita and for bites you can make this Spooky Grazing Board.

A Quick History About the Hocus Pocus Life Potion

If you are a fan of Hocus Pocus like me, this cocktail for you. This is a movie that I watch all year round but especially in Spooky Season. It begins when Winifred concocts the Life Potion, a green magic elixir to suck away the youth and life essence of children.

The Sanderson Sister had lured Emily, a young local girl and made her take the potion. Thackery, her brother who has been searching for her, arrives, turns the caldron and the potion was spilled on the floor. Sarah, Mary and Winifred succeed in taking Emily's life. Thackary angrily yells calling them hags.

This infuriated Winifred and she casts a spell that turns Thackary into an immortal cat. They later are sentenced to be hanged and are asked where Thackary is. Then Winifred responds that Cat's got her tongue as Binx meows angrily. Lastly, the movie fast forwards to 300 years later where the sisters return to create a new potion causing Amok Amok Amok!

Make this Hocus Pocus Life Potion cocktail if you are planning to watch the premiere of Hocus Pocus 2 - you can watch in Disney+!

Winifred's Life Potion is found in the sister's spell book. It sounds awful as you can see the recipe on the photo below! The recipe that I created is fun and way less complicated that Winifred's.

What do you need to make the Hocus Pocus Life Potion?

The cocktail is pretty simple. It requires three ingredients.

    • Gin - It is the perfect spirit for this cocktail. My favorite is Hendricks Gin. It is infused with rose and cucumber. Then Black bottle is also great for the mood and presentation. I have used Tito's, Empress 1908 and The Botanist.
    • Midori Liqueur - is a vibrant emerald green liqueur made from the juice of Japanese Muskmelons. These melons are rare to find. It pairs well with juices, other spirits and liquors. However, a bottle of Midori will cost about $29.
    • Pineapple Juice - This is my favorite juice to mix with Midori. It is sweet enough so you don't need to use simple syrup. You can also use orange, ruby red and blood orange juice.
    • Cocktail Shaker + Jigger - You don't need fancy bartending equiment to make good cocktails. You can also use a mason jar. In this post I discuss in detail what you'll need to to build a bar at home.

    Final Potion Notes

    1. You can always use flavored Gin or Vodka.
    2. Add edible glitter for a fun effect!
    3. Dry Ice will give you a spooky effect. (always handle dry ice with care)
    4. Make it kid friendly by swapping the Midori and Gin for green Hawaiian Punch and Sprite.
