    Snack Boards

By now y'all know I am fan of snack or charcuterie boards. Here are some of my favorites!

The Best Fall Harvest Charcuterie Board, Spooky Grazing Board, and Sweet and Savory Date Night Board.

Snack Boards are and should be effortless. They are for those days when you don't want to cook or are just watching a Basketball, Football or the Super Bowl! Even binging a show!

They are also easy to put together and the fun part is that the whole family can participate!

    Origins of Octoberfest

Oktoberfest is an annual festival in Munich, Germany, held over a two-week period and ending on the first Sunday in October. The festival originated on October 12, 1810, in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

Then in 1811 the State Agricultural fair decided to combine with the festival therefore, introducing booths serving food and drinks.

By the late 20th century the booths had developed into large beer halls made of plywood, with interior balconies and bandstands.

The mayor of Munich taps the first keg to open the festival. Total beer consumption during Oktoberfest is upwards of about 2 million gallons. That's a lot of beer!!

Lastly, the breweries are represented in parades that feature beer wagons and floats along with people in folk costumes. Other entertainment includes games, amusement rides, music, and dancing.

What do I need to make this Octoberfest Snack Board?

**See the Recipe Card Below for complete measurements**

Now that you know what Octoberfest is about let's get to what you need to put this board together:

Bratwurst- I usually get the Beer ones because they are flavorful. You can always go for different bratwurst.

German Style Wieners - These smoked and fully cooked like Vienna sausages like these Bobak ones. You can find these at Aldi or any meat specialty store.

Any German Smoke Hams - I used here a prosciutto style cured smoked ham. It is salty and soft.

Pretzels - There are so many varieties or pretzels but you can get your favorites. Trader Joe's carries a 4 count in their frozen section that are pretty good.

Cheeses - Trader Joe's again is the place to get seasonal cheese. For this Board I used a Dutch Spicy soft cheese and a Smoked Gouda.

Relishes and Sauces - To complete the board I added Yellow and Grain Mustard, Sauerkraut, Beer Cheese and Gherkins.

Extra Add ons - I added long bread sticks, apples and nuts. You can add anything else you want this is after all YOUR board.

Let's Put the Octoberfest Board Together

    1. You can use a baking sheet, round or a cutting board. I have sometimes used Butcher paper can be used and it is great for an easy cleanup!
    2. I use small ramekins or mason jars for the sauces, cheese and gherkins.
    3. Start but placing the sauces and relish in the middle.
    4. Place the pretzels on top stacked together, then add the meats to the side, and cheeses on the far end of the board. Lastly add breadsticks, apples, nuts.

What beer can you pair this Snack Board with?

This is the best part if you are into beer. My favorite to pair with is the Sierra Nevada Amber Märzen, it is a malty light golden lager about 6% alcohol by volume.

Paulaner Octoberfest Bier, Spaten and Live Oak Brewing Oaktoberfest are great Choices.

You can find Oktoberfest beers are Total Wine, Specs, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's or Local Brewery in your area.
